The voters of Vallejo have spoken and Ruscal Cayangyang is their clear choice

By Stephen Hallett

With all of the votes counted, Ruscal Cayangyang is in 4th place in the Vallejo School Board race. The 3 candidates with the most votes were elected to the Board. Richard Porter, the 2nd place candidate, has stated that he will not serve on the Board and will continue to teach in the District. This will create a vacancy on the School Board and will empower the Board to appoint someone to fill the vacancy.

No one who applies to fill this vacancy will have more support from the voters of Vallejo than Ruscal Cayangyang. The voters of Vallejo have spoken and Ruscal Cayangyang is their clear choice to fill this vacancy. The fair, ethical and moral thing for the Vallejo School Board to do is to appoint Ruscal Cayangyang. To do otherwise would undermine the Democratic process and ignore the will of the people.

The next School Board meeting will be Wednesday December 3rd at 5:00 PM. The new board will be sworn in. I encourage everyone to go to this meeting, speak at community forum and let the board know that you wish for them to appoint the person who received the most support from the voters of Vallejo. I also encourage you to write to the school board members individually and encourage them to appoint Ruscal because he is the voter’s choice. We must let the board know that the public is watching and that we expect the board to take our votes seriously.

Thank you Stephen for speaking up and speaking the truth for the people.

It is even more appropriate to say that for the Vallejo School Board to do anything else would be in complete arrogance and in defiance of the Sanctity of our American Democratic VOTING process.

      Members of the Board:

Be it one vote or a hundred, the electorate expect the democratic process to decide who sits on this Board to represent community values in public education. It is what put you in place. There is only one decision to be made and that is to welcome the successful candidate to the Board.

This may not sit well with the formal organization and specifically, Ms Bishop, but this contentious and somewhat bizarre election is indicative of a Board that needs to expand to seven or nine members to incorporate the diverse values here. It would also be wise to explore zonal representation to more accurately reflect those values.

The central tenet of locally elected school boards is to effectively reflect communal values in the organization. You have some way to go.

Right ‘O’ Stephen fyi tomorrow’s board of Sup’s meeting is the next step to certify the vote , the Registrar will present the data to be certified by the board ,a majority vote then certifies the results . @ $5.ooo per day to re-count it would be highly suspect if that kind of money materialized for a singe School board seat .. The Elephant in the room , clearly will be the appointment process We can well expect some robust ‘Potemkin Politics’ , which are likely going down currently .. Were the School Board to override the will of the electorate is a scary thought , and needs sage legal analysis and needs to be changed in the future . The board has limited power and certianly should not be allowed to subjugate the will of the Voters , this would be out of their jurisdiction and granted powers, subject to legal challenge .. If our Votes do not count We are no longer a Democrasey , mere Subjects of fifedoms .
