Greens Endorse Cayangyang for School Board

By Victoria Ashley
Council member, Green Party of Solano County

Dear Editor,

I’m writing to let you know that the Green Party of Solano County has endorsed Ruscal Cayangyang for Vallejo City Unified School District School Board. A questionnaire was sent to all school board candidates and those who submitted a response by the following meeting of the Solano County Green Party were considered for endorsement.

Ruscal Cayangyang has attended Vallejo public schools, has a degree in business from Napa Valley College and is a current student at the University of California, Berkeley. He has been a Chairman of the City of Vallejo Youth Commission and has served as a College Board Student Trustee at Napa Valley College.

Cayangyang is frustrated by the lack of transparency in the actions of the recent Board and has a number of solutions to address this issue, such as moving Board meeting times to 7 pm instead of 5 pm at locations more amenable to public transportation than Mare Island.  He proposes posting board meetings videos on YouTube for easier access, holding regularly scheduled weekly office hours at the Saturday Farmers Market, visiting school sites unannounced and speaking to students directly.  He also supports the right of teachers at charter schools to unionize.

Cayangyang wants stronger financial oversight and wants to ensure that Measure E funds, if passed, go towards students, not administration.  He believes that improved oversight, stronger transparency and accountability of Measure E funds could be best achieved by electing new Board members.

We believe that Ruscal Cayangyang will bring increased transparency and fiscal prudence to our School Board government.

For those not familiar with the Green Party — The Green Party is an international political party found in nearly 90 countries, holding positions in parliaments and congresses around the world. Greens in states across the US have been elected to positions for state assembly, mayor and city council, among others. Currently, 60 Greens hold elected office in California, including Mayors Gayle McLaughlin, of Richmond, and Bruce Delgado, of Marina (see:

I am trying to find who is funding Measure E, that be most informative to voters. It seems the citizenry is happy to give more money to people that continually squander tax payer dollars and don’t hesitate to go to the well for more. What happens when the goose that lays the golden egg is dead? No more to give.

Thanks Mensch, all the usual suspects. Seems this city has gotten way too incestuous .
